The Lost Truth About Love

In the fast-paced, material-driven world we live in today, love has been misinterpreted and overshadowed by societal standards. Often, people equate love with provision, leadership, or vision—values that, while significant, do not define love in its true, Biblical sense. The Body of Christ needs to unplug from these societal expectations and return to the foundation of love as ordained by God.

The Biblical Foundation of Love

Ephesians 5:25 commands, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” This verse serves as a profound reminder that love is not merely about meeting physical needs or fulfilling societal roles but about self-sacrifice. The model of Christ’s love for the church is one of unwavering commitment, grace, and selflessness.

Provision, leadership, and vision are outcomes of a love centered in Christ, not the seeds of it. Psalm 37:23 states, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.” When men and women align their lives with God’s Word, true leadership and provision flow naturally, grounded in God’s will, not societal pressure.

A Misguided Standard

If we were to judge love based on today’s standards, Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus, might have been dismissed as unsuitable. He was a carpenter, lacked wealth, and had to rely entirely on God for direction during a time of great uncertainty. Yet, his faith and obedience to God’s vision for his family demonstrated the essence of true love.

Luke 1:31 shows that Mary received the vision of Jesus’ birth first, highlighting that God’s plans transcend societal norms. The notion that a man must always lead or provide to prove his love is not Biblical. Instead, God calls both men and women to serve Him first, as He is the ultimate Provider and Leader.

Vision and Relationship with God

Society often teaches that women should love men for their vision or material success, but Biblical love goes deeper. A woman should love a man for his relationship with God, as it is God who orders his steps and grants him the ability to lead in a Christ-centered way.

When a man prioritizes his walk with God, his leadership and provision are empowered by divine wisdom. Proverbs 16:9 reminds us, “In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” The priority is not material wealth but spiritual alignment.

Forgiveness and Sacrifice

True love is tested in moments of difficulty. Today, over 90% of men struggle with forgiving infidelity, and 60% face challenges raising children they did not biologically father. Yet, Colossians 3:13 reminds us, “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Love calls for patience, forgiveness, and a willingness to sacrifice personal pride for the greater good of others.

Conclusion: Reclaiming the Truth

The lost truth about love is this: it is not defined by provision, leadership, or vision alone. Love is rooted in God, expressed through sacrifice, forgiveness, and selfless commitment. As Christians, we are called to rediscover this truth and live it
